The Central Bank issued a coin in the denomination of Rs.5/= to mark the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations Organisation. The coin has been minted to circulation standard in nickel/brass and is round in shape. The obverse of the coin depicts the official 50th Anniversary logo of the UNO. In the centre United Nations Anniversary in words in Sinhala appear on the apex and the bottom centre, and in Tamil and English languages along the periphery.The years 1945-1995 is depicted below the “United Nations” inscription in Sinhala. The reverse of the coin depicts figure ‘5’ in numerals at the centre of the coin and Rupees Five in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages in words across the numeral ‘5’. Sri Lanka in words in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages appear on the periphery of the coin and the year 1995 at the bottom centre of the coin.
