Central Bank of Sri Lanka, 2300 Anubudu Mihindu Jayanthiya - Rs. 500 Silver Commemorative Coin.
In 1993 a coin was issued to commemorate the 2300 Anubudu Mihindu Jayanthiya. The coin in the denomination of Rs.500/= has been struck in silver (0.925Ag). It is round in shape and has a milled edge. The obverse of the coin is a symbolic representation of the first ever meeting of Arahant Mahinda with King Devanampiyatissa at the Missaka Pabbata (Mihintale Rock) near Anuradhapura. The Dhamma Chakka (The wheel of Dhamma) symbolically represents Arahant Mahinda and Buddha Dhamma. On the reverse is a stylized Bodhi Tree representing the sacred Bo Tree at Buddha Gaya, seated at the foot of which Buddha attained Enlightenment. Also depicted is the ornamental golden railing around the Sacred Bodhi Tree at Buddha Gaya.
As with all Sri Lankan currency the lettering is in Sinhala, Tamil & English.
